The SVOD Report 2020

12 May 2020

BARB has published a new version of its annual SVOD Report as part of The Viewing Report 2020.

The SVOD Report looks at what BARB knows about viewing to subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Now TV in the UK.

The report provides the latest update on the number of UK households that subscribe to each of these SVOD services, and the number that subscribe to two or more, with a look at how these overlapping subscriptions have progressed since 2015. It also investigates the age profile of users for each of the three SVOD services, and how this has changed over time.

In addition, the report examines the rise of unidentified viewing (all TV set viewing that BARB cannot identify), a significant proportion of which is accounted for by viewing to SVOD services, all of which are yet to sign up to BARB’s measurement system. It investigates the change in the amount of unidentified viewing by different ethnic groups over time, as well as looking at the competition posed by unidentified viewing as a whole for BARB-reported channels in the peak 9-10pm evening viewing slot.
