Games console households 28 May 2020 The games console tracker follows the number of homes with a games console connected to a TV set. The Establishment Survey tracks each generation of the three main console brands: Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo. UK households with access to a games console increased to 8.2 million in Q1 2020, reaching the 8 million level for the first time since Q1 2019. The increase of 277,000 homes was a +3.5% uplift quarter-on-quarter. Year-on-year change for the three tracked brands saw market leader Sony PlayStation remain stable compared to Q1 2019, down -0.1% to 4.3 million homes. Access to an Xbox was down slightly year-on-year, declining -3.4% versus Q1 2019 to 3.7 million homes. The overall growth for the tracked games consoles was driven by the Nintendo Switch, which was up just over 30% versus Q1 2019, to 1.7 million homes. Note: Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all face-to-face interviewing for BARB’s Establishment Survey was suspended on March 17th 2020. This means that BARB will not be able to report Q2 2020 Establishment Survey data. Subject to government guidance and ongoing discussions with our contractors, we are looking to resume Establishment Survey interviews from Q3 2020.
